Tradition! -Uncommon Creatures AW10
Can you fall in love with a silhouette? Because I think I have. Right now, I am constantly confronted by this sartorial structure of long and lean down below, loose and layered on top. It's there whenever I stop off at my favourite fashion blog Luxirare, it taunts me from the pages of Swedish look books (please, Swedish friends, mail me some Weekday!) and it's now well and truly stuck in my psyche.
Now, with the arrival of the Uncommon Creatures AW10 campaign, my new love has infiltrated menswear. Danish duo Christina Højris Ottosen and Jens Kold-Christensen have deftly created a collection for the kind of rock and roll bohemian that any man worth his salt aspires to be. Inspired by traditional Jewish garb, the Uncommon Creatures twosome present orthodox style wide-brimmed hats, long draped tops resembling prayer shawls, and even tees printed with a scratchily drawn kippah-wearing Jewish elder.
What they'd make of it down the Synagogue is anyone's guess but, for me, these pieces hit just the right tone; serious yet relaxed, avant-garde yet somehow traditional. With such a strong look, my love of this silhoutte isn't going anywhere just yet...
