The Gift

The Season of Giving

Sandra Freij is a photographer I’ve previously blogged about and I felt I must share her latest dalliance with film before the moment or rather the season passed.

Entitled ‘The Gift’ and shot for Test Magazine this short captures the magic of the night before Christmas and the spirit of the season – giving. As it begins you are returned to your childhood sleepless Christmas Eve nights as you await Santa’s arrival in anticipation.

While the child sleeps three models appear in a wise men like fashion. I love how these models take Christmas bauble decorations and use them as headpieces and the way they style them reminds me of Antwerp 2010 graduate Nathalie Fordeyn's cocoon-esque knitwear collection.

However the presence of these elves is fleeting as once their mission is complete they leave behind a wrapped silver present as the child begins to wake from her slumber. And by the end of the film we too sadly become conscience and start to awaken from the festive haze as we realise the holidays are nearing an end.
