Sten&Lex Stencil Art
I Heart ‘We Heart’. Continuously and consistently filling my world with inspiring snippets from the world of fashion, art, design, architecture and beyond. Last week, WeHeart brought these wonderful works by ‘Sten&Lex’ to my attention. Painstakingly meticulous and delicately destructive, Italian street artists ‘Sten and Lex’ create intricate stencils from layers of paper, which are then painted over in monochromatic hues to create unique greyscale portraits.
Invited by Banksy to the Cans Festival in London, the street-art duo is seriously successful and most definitely established in their field. I don’t know about you- but I would just love to see this technique applied to fabric- in the hope of realising a wearable version of these fascinating works.
Reminiscent of a cassette tape that’s been unwound and looks rather bedraggled, or a fraying slither of delicate gauze- it’s a ‘tattered’ beautifully aged aesthetic that looks surprisingly raw and new in its fragility. If you’re as intrigued as I was to see how these amazing pieces are constructed, watch this video now and prepare to be amazed!
