Artesis Hogeschool- The Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts
Graduating from one of the oldest and most respected fashion schools in Europe has got to be a great feeling, especially when you know the likes of Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester came before you. The school that I am referring to is of course The Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts. It has been open since 1663 and the fashion department (Artesis Hogeschool) has been running since the sixties and not only boasts world class teaching but showcases rich and beautiful collections by the talented students year after year. 2010 is no different as the students across each of the four years are gearing up towards the annual show to be held June 10th, 11th and 12th.
The philosophy of The Royal Academy of Fine Arts is for the students to be surrounded by creativity and art in every which way, not just from fashion designers alike, but from other mediums such as painters, sculptors and graphic designers. The ability to illustrate is of the up most importance, and the students are required to exude originality and to be engulfed within the emotional side of the creative process, which will set the foundations for a raw, genuine and innovative final collection.
It is definitely a show worth catching if you are lucky enough to be in the area, if not, thank god for the internet. We will be showcasing images from this bound-to-be-inspirational show, so keep your peepers peeled.
