Annelise Philips
I love the balmy feel to Annelise Philips' images. They make you feel as if you are experiencing a heatwave in the city, as the urban jungle transforms into your resort playground. Parched concrete walls surround subjects and lighting is set to sunset. Recreational sports are engaged in and clothes are light and airy.
Models are fresh faced as the weather forces them to abandon make-up. They wander about this concrete sprawl where man made green spots are interjected into this greyed landscape, offering sanctuary. Browsing through her images, in places you almost expect to see a fire hydrant explode, as the illusion of humidity rises. Her pictures inherently focus on the concept of the young downtown girl as she explores her surrounds.
