Illustrated Adventures
What I love about Natalia Ley's illustrations is how she manages to blend fashion, humour and whimsy into one sketch.
Her drawings are like epic adventures, with each one transporting you to her characters world as you momentarily forget these are drawings and not real life people.
Showgirls take you to a Moulin Rogue, Crazy Horse venue while underwater adventures of the the Brothers Grimm persuasion take place. You are confronted by quarrelling lovers upon a river bank and fashion circus freaks. You enter the field of portrait.
Her use of colour and shading is acute, the way she creates the illusion of sunlight and the sensation of water makes you question your perception.
To me, Natalia Ley is an illustrator who with a pencil can create portals to other lands.
