London Fashion Week SS11 NEWGEN Exhibition - Yang Du

Yang Du’s knitwear, now synonymous with colourful cartoons, playful sensibilities, but above all fun and quirky daywear, cheerfully enlivened the NewGen exhibition area. Her signature bold brights are rendered across a series of oversized knits in a collection entitled ‘He Is A Superman’. Delving into her past, the designer takes inspiration from the toys and games that characterised her childhood, and the intense emotions that accompany young romance. Superman, Batman and Astroboy all make an appearance, compounding the youthful conceit.

The collection also features panelled jersey dresses – a first for the designer, and a departure from her well established knit signature. Fitted but fluid, the graphic two-dimensional statements are complemented with mischievous accessories that recall finger puppets, reiterating the naivete inherent within Yang Du’s Spring Summer collection.
