Georgia Charlotte Blackmore
Why do people insist that love is blind? When I fell for Georgia Charlotte Blackmore's graduate shoe collection, my eyes were very much open. Her pieces are rose-tinted beauties, finished with soft but stand-out quirks. They are, according to the designer, all based on an imagined story of a lost woman - "a neo magpie" - who is haunted by her recollections of the past. Blackmore has said of this make-believe character, "She has attached a memory to an object and although over the years the memory stays the same, the object fades and begins to decay, giving in to wear, tear, sunlight, and time." As a result, the collection carries a romantic yet forlorn ambiance. It reminds me of the forgotten sandy piers and beach resorts which scatter Britain's coastlines. The sun may have set on their heyday, but they are still treasured, beacons of nostalgia. There is an intimacy evident in Blackmore’s inspiration that is strongly noticeable too in her designs. Intricate detailing, even down to the use of her initials on the sole of each shoe, add to their decisively delicate appearance. I can’t stop staring, wide-eyed at this collection. So now you know, love isn’t blind. (At least, not in this case.)
