CSM Designer Showcase
The CSM show at London Fashion Week came with influential press, fashion executives, buyers and industry insiders as a front row standard, testament to the influence these young designers hold. Last week the soon to graduate students presented their collections, lookbooks and portfolios in a static exhibition. The expectant crowd, which included John Rocha, was given an excellent opportunity to review pieces from the showcase, and observe the emphasis on painstaking craftsmanship that underpins this CSM course.
The overriding impression was one of diversity- the incredible scope of the garments presented is testament to both the skill of the students and Louise Wilson’s now almost legendary teaching methods. Crisp all white collections were juxtaposed against vibrant cobalt blues, rich orange hues and muted nude tones, whilst loose, unstructured tailoring jostled with pleating, deconstructed fabrics and executed minimalism. Providing plenty of inspiration, and a chance to witness the very earliest roots of designers who will, no doubt, go on to become major (and influential) fashion leaders, it’s certainly a privilege to gaze into the CSM crystal ball, trying to predict just who will be the next Giles, Christopher or Marioo. Or Emma, Todd, Alexander…
