Esthetica Presentation AW 11/12
An exhibition allowing up-and-coming and ethical designers the space to show their collections, Esthetica had a buzzing atmosphere of people hungry to discover something new and exciting. Guests sipped on champagne or Bloody Marys as they perused the many rails of clothes that spread themselves over the top floor of Somerset Houses’ Embankment Galleries. There was something to please all tastes from casualwear to the more high end.
On the more avant garde side of things there was Dr. Noki’s NHS which offered high end with an urban streetwear twist in deconstructed New Era caps that and a vintage ballgown sewn on to the bottom of a hoody to become the skirt of a quirky dress. Ada Zanditon’s geometric prints and manipulation of the fabric also made for interesting browsing.
Other highlights of the exhibition included a display of scarves for the Fairtrade Foundation that had been designed using fairly-traded cotton by some more established names including Hussein Chalayan, Holly Fulton and Marios Schwab, to raise awareness for ethical fashion. The North Circular's fashion film, 'Metamorphosis' - featuring Lily Cole - was also screened for the first time.
