Beyond The Valley
For AW 11/12 Beyond The Valley invite you to join them in their world through graphic portals. Digital prints depict an Eden style landscape as you enter a woodland which is reminiscent of Snow White's forest. Yet with the collection entitled Industrial Landscapes you suspect that when these scenes appear on the black silk canvas of cheongsam-esque dresses and tops that perhaps it depicts the threat of an oil spill. This undertone brings a touch of darkness to the designs.
Etchings upon a purple trapeze windbreaker nod to cave drawings and astrological illusions. Banded drop-crotch trousers veer between harmen pants and tracksuit bottoms. Geometrical puzzles appear on t-shirt dresses. A black fleece bolero is given a turtleneck while a parka jacket has a tail. Central to this collection is experimentation with the hemline, which is mini up front and gathered to the back, something we touched on in our trend focus on inverted u shapes back in our Chirstmas Theatre Issue.
