Beat Poet - Distil
Entitled 'Distil' the purpose of Beat Poet's AW 11/12 collection is to distill a modern man's wardrobe to its essence; a challenge they thankfully approach in a non 'Perfume' like fashion. Cues are taken from military uniforms which they use as a measure of masculinity. Youthful nonchalance is melded with sophisticated, directional tailoring.
The fundamentals of any menswear closet - the parka jacket, the duffel coat, the Bronx leather jacket, the classic coat and suits are taken back to the drawing board as Beat Poet strip them to their essentials before reconfiguring them, maintaining their heritage yet offering a new perspective. A blazer is set to leather while one side of an embellished motorcycle jacket is added, acting as an extension of the casual single breasted blazer. Collars such as the albany are experimented with as the neckline gains a focus.
Though what I adore most about this collection is its acute attention to detail. Military badges are reinterpreted and placed upon ties. Boots are given stirrups. As every detail is 'distilled'.
