Rankin Portrait
With all the talk about New York Fashion Week I cant help but finally feel the excitement that London is looming. With a jam packed week full of incredible shows and presentations there are too many days to look forward to.
This Saturday 18th September on the river terrace of Somerset House, All Walks Beyond the Catwalk will be showcasing a diverse portrait of fashion. Not only will Giles Deacon, Hussein Chalayan and Vivienne Westwood preview a look for Spring/Summer 2011, internationally renowned photographer Rankin will be there to capture it.
Debra Bourne, Caryn Franklin and Erin O’Connor set up All Walks in September 09, wanting to engage the fashion industry in a conversation about body shape. Launching with a range of designers including Mark Fast, David Koma and Hannah Marshall. The initiative of All Walks Beyond the Catwalk started in an attempt to challenge preconceptions of size, race and age within fashion.
Now in its third season with part funding by Marks and Spencer and the LDA, the award winning All Walks Beyond the Catwalk is dedicated to promoting the beauty of individuality through cutting edge design. It has played a part in instigating a shift in attitude, everyone remembers the media hype surrounding Mark Fasts show featuring curvy models which has gathered supporters such as Mary Portas, Nick Knight, Sarah Brown, Twiggy, and Georgia Jagger.
With all the interest surrounding this incredible initiative I for one can not wait to join them all on Saturday, I’m just praying for the sunshine, oh and a good hair day.
